Private hearing services are not covered by Medicare unless you have a Chronic Disease Management (CDM) plan organised by your General Practitioner (there are criteria to be met to be eligible) or a referral from an Ear, Nose and Throat (ENT) specialist or a Neurologist. Children with an existing diagnosis of Autism or Pervasive Development Disorder may also be eligible for a Medicare rebate.
You may be eligible for a refund through your private health insurer. Unfortunately, HICAPS is not available for Audiology, including hearing aids and repairs. Any applicable rebates will be collected from your fund direct. Please click here to see current PHI rebates (this is a guideline only and is subject to change).
